Are You Watching For Signs Of Pest Problems?

Thursday, April 11, 2013

While some pests like raccoons in the garbage or stinging insects buzzing around your head are pretty obvious, many other pests are more subtle and some are not even seen at all. But the good news is that even the most sneaky of pests will leave behind some evidence of their presence, if you are looking. So before you go on worrying about what critters could be lurking around your home, now is the time to get educated so you can spot signs of a pest problem.

Why you want to find pests sooner rather than later...

The biggest threat when it comes to overlooking pest infestations (or simply not knowing they are there) is that as time goes on, the infestation will get worse and prove more of a threat to you, your family and your home. Depending on the pest at hand, you could wind up with extensive and costly structural damages, the spread of harmful bacteria, contamination of your food, and even illness and disease spread to you and your family. This is why our team of Ohio and Michigan pest control professionals at Rose Pest Solutions are committed to helping you maintain a pest free home year round.

To help you identify pests sooner rather than later, here are some of the common signs of an infestation of three sneaky and destructive pests - termites, carpenter ants, or mice.

  • Mud tubes around the property that termites use to travel underground to and from sources of wood.

  • Termite swarms or discarded wings from swarmers. Could be inside or outside.

  • Wood work that appears to be buckling, swollen, or what appears to be water damage.

Carpenter ants

  • Inspect moist, decaying wood sources first for any ant activity because this is what they prefer.

  • Hollow sounding wood or galleries carved in wood structures.

  • Small piles of sawdust called frass that carpenter ants get rid of after carving their galleries.

  • Small mouse droppings in kitchen cupboards of the food pantry.

  • Chew marks on structures, wires, and around food sources.

  • A mouse nest which is a tiny ball made of materials from nearby like insulation, cardboard, fabrics, etc.

If you notice any of these signs of pests in your home, please contact Rose Pest Solutions right away. While these pests may be hard to find in the flesh, they will leave behind some clues so that you can have the pest problem eradicated quickly to avoid further problems.
