Bed bugs are small, flat nocturnal insects that were a common problem in the US during the 1960s and then appeared to enter into a long period of dormancy. In recent years, bed bugs have enjoyed an alarming resurgence and are becoming a serious pest problem for businesses in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana, where humans populations are condensed, like multi-family dwellings, and where inhabitants are transient, like hotels.
Often introduced on luggage, used clothing and furniture as well as on visitors who were recently exposed to a bed bug infestation, bed bugs can be found in a variety of places, including:
Not sure if you have a bed bug problem? Although they are small parasitic insects, bed bugs can be seen by the naked eye and can be identified by the appearance of small brownish or reddish dots on bedding, mattresses and furniture. These are bed bug droppings and blood spots from their feeding. Heavy infestations may result in an odor described as “buggy” or sweet. Bed bug bites usually produce mild or no reaction in most people but may leave behind red, itchy welts. Bed bugs feed on any bare skin exposed while sleeping (face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, etc.). While they prefer humans, bed bugs may also feed on your cats, dogs, birds or other warm-blooded pests.
At Rose Pest Solutions, we understand how expensive and stressful a bed bug infestation can be. That's why we offer commerical bed bug treatments in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and the entire Rose service area.
Rose began using dogs to detect bed bugs in 2011 with two trained bed bug sniffing dogs. Since then we’ve added six new dogs and handlers, trained specifically to detect live bed bugs and bed bug eggs. Our eight active canine teams have been trained using the same methodology and regimen as bomb-sniffing dogs, drug dogs and termite dogs.
The Handlers are also trained and certified. Each team is required to pass this test annually in order to maintain certification. Many of our dogs are rescued from shelters and all are trained by J&K Canine Academy.
