It is that time of year again, time for Holiday decorating, parties and spending time with family. At Rose Pest Solutions, we love this time of year, and we hope that you do too. We hope that your Holiday is filled with the wonderful sights and sounds of the season, and you have all your loved ones around you to enjoy the excitement. We also hope that you’re spending this Holiday free of invading rodents and insects, and in that spirit, we would like to offer you some Holiday decorating pest prevention tips!
-
When pulling Holiday decorations out of storage, unpack these boxes in the garage, or outside if at all possible. That will keep any critters that are hiding in these boxes from escaping into your home.
-
Inspect ornaments and other Holiday decorations for damage caused by insects and rodents. It may seem obvious, but inspect Holiday decorations for insects or rodents that may be residing inside them; you don’t want to scare off your Holiday visitors with bugs on the Christmas tree!
-
If you plan to bring fresh greenery into your home, like a Christmas tree or evergreen bunting, inspect these items carefully for bugs. You can try to shake these items outside before bringing them indoors, or you can leave them on a garage floor for a day or two, which will allow them to warm up. If there are any insects hiding in the greenery, once they warm up they will become active and most likely will leave their hideouts.
-
After the Holidays, consider buying hard plastic bins with tightly fitted lids to store your holiday decorations. Plastic bins are less penetrable by insects and rodents than cardboard boxes and will also help protect your favorite decorations from possible water damage or serious temperature fluctuations.
-
Make certain you wash Holiday table clothes, linens and even your Christmas tree skirt before storing it away for the rest of the year. If there are any oils or stains left on these materials, they could attract fabric destroying bugs like carpet beetles, case-making clothes moths and even cockroaches.
If you find that you do have insects in your home, often vacuuming them up can be the first line of defense. If this is not effective and you find you have a large infestation that can’t be handled on your own, contact your friendly pest control technicians at Rose Pest Solutions. We are happy to help you anytime and will get to you just as soon as we can, often within just one day! Contact us in Cincinnati, Columbus, Detroit, Fort Wayne and throughout our service area today for more information on our residential pest control services.
