With school underway, now is the time many families have to worry about threat of bugs coming home including lice and bed bugs. In the midst of all the bug drama there are many myths that float around which can leave worried parents with an unclear idea about how to really prevent the bugs at school. So to help families in Michigan and Ohio as well as throughout our pest control service area better understand the impact of lice and bed bugs, Rose Pest Solutions would like to share some of the myths and prevention tips.
Myths about lice
-
Lice jump from child to child - Lice are not capable of jumping which means contact is the only way they can spread.
-
Fumigation will kill lice in the home - Lice live on humans and since humans can’t be present during the fumigation, it will not take care of the lice problem.
-
Lice are dangerous and can carry disease - Lice are more of an embarrassment and cause a lot of itching, but diseases are not spread from a lice infestation.
Myths about bed bugs
-
Bed bugs come from dirty homes - Bed bugs do not favor filth over cleanliness and they are just as likely to infest the cleanest home on the block as the messiest.
-
Bed bugs only live in mattresses - Bed bugs don’t just live in mattresses but it is where they feed. Bed bugs can be found in other furniture and even hide in electrical outlets, curtains and baseboard cracks in addition to other inconspicuous places.
-
Bed bugs can transmit disease - Though bed bugs bite, there has been no scientific evidence that bed bugs can transmit diseases to humans. They are simply a nuisance and can cause a lot of anxiety and embarrassment.
